That’s Not a Laptop

Sales are a great way to scoop up some epic deals on big-ticket items. Oftentimes, during holiday seasons, websites will offer huge discounts on so people are in the mood to buy things for themselves and others.

Flipkart is an Indian e-commerce company that sells several items under categories such as consumer electronics, fashion, home essentials, groceries, and lifestyle products. Yashaswi Sharma was looking to purchase a laptop for his father during the website’s Big Billion Days but ended up receiving something else in his package.

The company sent Sharma packages of detergent instead of his brand-new laptop. To make matters worse, the e-commerce giant has refused to fix its mistake. Flipkart’s customer support is blaming Sharma even though they sent the detergent sachets in place of a laptop. In addition to the actual package not being what he ordered, Sharma alleged that he had CCTV footage to back up his claims.

Next time Sharma orders from Flipkart, he and his father now know to accept or deny the package through an “open-box” delivery. To comply, the buyer must open the box before the delivery person and only provide the OTP after carefully inspecting the product.

Obviously, no one was expecting that the package wouldn’t actually contain a laptop and would instead be filled with laundry detergent. The senior-most customer service executive for Flipkart asserted that since the OTP was accepted, no refund was possible and the situation could not escalate further.

Let this be a lesson for everyone, check your packages before the delivery driver scurries away.
