It’s not every day that a group of animals plan their own escape. Around 30 cows were able to escape their enclosure on a highway after a crash involving a cattle trailer.
The Arizona Department of Transportation responded to the Loop 101 freeway in Glendale in the early morning hours after they received a call about a crash. No injuries were reported from the accident but between 15 and 30 young cows did escape from the trailer involved in the incident.
The department confirmed that the truck had actually been carrying 109 cows before the crash occurred. The cows blocked the southbound lanes of the highway but road workers were able to assist in corralling the animals on the right shoulder of the highway.
A replacement trailer was eventually driven to the crash site by the cow owners and the cattle were loaded onto the new trailer.
