Wild Boar Piglet Gets Adopted by Cows

Trying to fit in can be exhausting work but a wild boar piglet has been accepted into his new home seamlessly. A cow herd welcomed up their humble abode with open arms and adopted the lone wild boar piglet as one of their own.

Farmer Friedrich Stapel said that he spotted the piglet among the herd in the central German community of Brevoerde around three weeks ago. It was alone as it had likely lost its group when they all crossed a nearby river.

Wild boars can be extremely disruptive to ecosystems as they can rapidly increase their population and can have negative effects on other plants and animals. Wild boars are omnivores, meaning they can and will consume almost anything. They also locate food in the soil by rooting with their tusks, making a mess of any space that gets in their path.

Despite knowing the risks and extensive damage wild boars can cause, Stapel can’t seem to bring himself to chase the animal away. “To leave it alone now would be unfair,” Stapel said.

A local hunter known around the area has been instructed to leave the animal alone. As winter approaches, Stapel plans to put it in the shed with the mother cows.
