With Christmas in the air, more and more people are looking for creative ways to celebrate the holidays. A woman dyed her dog green to look like the Grinch but was met with criticism online about the procedure.
To get into the holiday spirit, Ashlee Spielmann took her pup Rizzo to the salon to get his Grinch glow-up. The snazzy Schnauzer is a picture-perfect match to Spielmann’s children’s favorite festive film.
Sharing Rizzo’s new look, Spielmann posted a video of the pup on TikTok and was met with quite an unimpressed response. Despite the video receiving over 10.6 million views as of this writing, many took to the comments to share their distaste for the new do.
One user wrote: “Why do people do stuff like this?”
Another added: “That should not be allowed. Poor baby.”
Spielmann insists that all she wanted to do was honor her children’s favorite Christmas movie. “Our kids love The Grinch and watched it almost every night last year. Because Schnauzers naturally have grumpy looking faces due to their haircut I thought it would be fun to make Rizzo the Grinch,” she said.
Even though she had thousands of real-life Christmas grinches hating on her hound’s updated look, Spielmann revealed a woman currently undergoing radiation treatment for cancer reached out to her to tell the family that Rizzo’s video had brightened her day.
“It’s the little things like that,” Spielmann said. “My dog made her whole day while going through one of the hardest things.”
Although people were making a big deal about the procedure online, according to grooming experts, coloring your dog’s fur is completely safe and harmless for your pet. There are non-toxic dyes out there for animals, which were used on Rizzo.
