Knowing that you’re in the vicinity of an animal’s den can be a terrifying experience depending on the creature. A woman received quite the wake-up call when she discovered a black bear den behind her house.
A North Carolina woman who heard strange noises coming from outside of her home was shocked to learn that she was sharing her outdoor space with a bear den. To figure out what to do, Casey Vandergrift called the wildlife group Help Asheville Bears.
Jody Williams, the founder of HAB, visited Vandergrift’s home to check out the situation. The group was in for quite the surprise when they discovered the bear den in the brush behind Vandergrift’s property.
Williams said that Vandergrift did agree to share her property with the bear for the winter as they will soon be hibernating. Over the winter, the den will be monitored by HAB to see if the bear does end up giving birth to cubs.
