Car-Sized Tumbleweed Blows Onto California Highway

Tumbleweeds do actually exist outside of the movies and apparently, they can grow to become the size of a car. A giant tumbleweed was spotted by several civilians blowing down a highway in California.

The huge brush the size of a Volkswagen beetle was captured on video and posted on X. The user who posted a video didn’t provide much information other than calling it “the mother of all tumbleweeds.” Many who saw the video compared it to a giant hairball, which is pretty self-explanatory.

Apparently, this isn’t the first time a giant tumbleweed has made its presence known to the world. The brush isn’t one specific species of plant and they fall under an umbrella of noxious weeds that when dry, break off at the root, setting off on a seed-spreading expedition.

Back in 2014, a tumbleweed explosion knocked down fences, blocked highways and trapped people inside their homes in Colorado. In 2020, a similar incident occurred when a swarm of tumbleweeds took over a stretch of Washington state highway, which caused cars and trucks to be trapped for hours.
