Chicken Waste Spills Over Kentucky Highway

Normal spills that happen on highways tend to be a mess to clean up but aren’t too smelly of an experience. Kentucky officials were warning motorists to avoid a portion of U.S. Highway 62 where chicken offal spilled along the roadway.

According to the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet District 1, the spill occurred just east of the Interstate 24 Calvert City exit. The estimated clean-up time for the chicken offal, otherwise referred to as chicken waste, was two hours. The smell might just last a lifetime.

The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet District 1 posted an update about the spill on Facebook. “The Calvert City Fire Department is attempting to wash the waste material off the roadway. KYTC Marshall County Maintenance will apply salt to the roadway to enhance traction and cut through the slick smelly coating on the pavement,” the post read.

The Kentucky State Police Division of Vehicle Enforcement was also on-site to assist with the situation. Officials offered a self-detour via I-24 between Exit 31 and Exit 27 so motorists were able to “avoid the smell and getting chicken waste on your vehicle, you should avoid this area.”
