Chinese Chess Player Sues for Title He Lost After Defecating in Hotel Bathtub

Playing chess professionally can take a lot out of a player mentally. A Chinese chess player is suing the national association in China for mental distress after he was stripped of a title for drinking alcohol and defecating in the bathtub of his hotel room.

Yan Chenglong said that he drank a moderate amount of beer to celebrate his competition win with other players. It was some food he had eaten that caused him stomach problems and forced him to defecate before getting to the toilet in time.

After an investigation done by the Chinese Xiangqi Association, they discovered that Yan had damaged hotel property, violated public order and good behavior and had a negative impact on the tournament. As a result, they stripped him of his title win.

Yan is demanding that the association apologize, restore his reputation in the media and pay him $14,000 in damages.
