Driver and Friend Both Arrested for OWI

Being there for your friends can be a good thing or it can get both of you in trouble. A Michigan woman was stopped by police for an OWI and so was her friend, who arrived on the scene later to help.

According to troopers from the Michigan State Police Gaylord Post, a woman was stopped in Otsego County after police suspected her of operating a vehicle while intoxicated. During the traffic stop, she called her friend for help.

The friend drove over to help but instead found herself in a pickle when she was also arrested for OWI. It turns out that both friends had been drinking together earlier while playing trivia and decided to drive home while under the influence.

OWI offenses usually involve a motorist having a blood alcohol concentration (BAC) above the 0.08% legal limit or otherwise driving unlawfully while under the influence of drugs or alcohol. In Michigan, alcohol and drug-related fatal crashes remain a significant traffic safety issue, with approximately 44.7 percent of the total fatal crashes involving alcohol and drugs in 2021.
