RCMP Investigates Suspicious Bomb Found on Trail

The Nova Scotia RCMP confirmed that a mysterious device found in a forest is actually a geocache. The device caused a spur in the community and prompted the evacuation of nearby homes and the closure of three roads.

Police announced on their official Twitter account that they were investigating a device found on a trail in the woods near Oak Avenue and Fales River Drive in the Greenwood area. The RCMP explosives disposal unit arrived at the location to examine the object.

Later that day, the RCMP provided an update that this object wasn’t an explosive, it was determined to be a geocache. Geocaching is an outdoor recreational activity where people use a Global Positioning System receiver to hide and seek containers. There is no cause for panic since this object is incapable of blowing people up.

“We would like to thank residents of Greenwood and the public for their cooperation and patience as we investigated this incident,” the release said.

“We would also like to remind the public that when engaging in recreational activities, to please ensure that any containers that they leave unattended, do not resemble explosive devices.”

People who were forced to evacuate can return home and the closed roads are reopened.

This geocache will not lead to a devastating news story.
