World’s First Cocaine Bar Changes Location Every Month

Besides the obvious difference between regular bars and cocaine bars, there is still something else that stands out between the two. Regular bars have the luxury of staying in one place while a cocaine bar has to move around every month in order to keep the cops off its trail.

Route 36 is the world’s first and only known cocaine bar and is located in the city of La Paz, Bolivia. Despite being a happening place, trying to find it is no easy feat.

Cocaine is illegal in Bolivia but the coca plant is available to purchase for medicinal purposes, as well as for cooking, making it the third largest producer of the plant after Columbia and Peru. Being located in the highest administrative capital in the world, many tourists have frequented Route 36 to help with their breathlessness, nausea or insomnia.

The illegal pop-up lounge serves cocaine by the gram on a silver platter and also includes a cocktail of your choice. In order to keep a low profile and evade capture, the bar moves around once a month.

Apparently, if you want to visit the establishment, the best way to find the bar is to get a cab, as taxi drivers in the city have all the insider knowledge. People who have managed to uncover the bar have claimed that the place is really just a tourist destination.

Plus, you could be looking at a $5 entry fee before being charged around $15 for a gram of cocaine — although it is exceptionally pure.

Even with its constant relocation, a bar as well-known as Route 36 would have been closed long ago without the support of law enforcement and other local authorities.
