Animal Rescue Burglar Alarm Set Off by Escaped Dog Chowing Down

There’s nothing like a midnight snack to hold you over until morning. An Arizona animal shelter caught one of their pups red-handed after it had escaped from its kennel at night, opened a door into an office and swiped some snacks.

Jodi Polanski, the founder and executive director of Lost Our Home Pet Rescue in Tempe, Arizona, said her phone received an alert that the security system at the shelter had been triggered. “It said a glass broke from inside, and I said, ‘How is that possible?'” Polanski said.

She contacted Tempe police and used her phone to check in on the security cameras so she could better understand the situation. Funnily enough, it turned out that a dog named King had somehow managed to open the door of his kennel with his paw and snuck his way through a second door to get into the office.

King sniffed out some food that was on a shelf and spread it across the floor before making his way to the front door. “Turns out, because he was jumping up on the door, that’s why it was saying ‘glass break,'” Polanski said.

The video, which Polanski shared on Facebook, later showed King excitedly greeting a police officer who arrived at the rescue to investigate the alarm. The shelter said that local police have 24-hour access to the facility in case they need to drop off a stray when it’s closed.

The officer took King back into his kennel and cleaned up the food from the floor, leaving no trace of King’s adventures. “We’re just calling him Mr. Clean,” Polanski said about the officer.
