Cattle Escape Onto Virginia Highway After Crash

Move over, cows coming through. A portion of a Virginia highway was shut down after a three-vehicle crash caused some cows to escape onto the roadway.

Virginia State Police reported that a tractor-trailer hauling cattle was involved in a three-vehicle crash around 11:40 a.m. on April 1, 2024. The crash occurred near the 232-mile marker in Augusta County, Virginia.

According to the Virginia Department of Transportation, the crash allowed for “several cows” to escape onto the busy roadway. Posting about the situation on X, the department said that these escaped cows caused traffic to back up more than nine miles.

Augusta County Animal Control personnel were called to the scene to round up the cows and assess their condition.
