First-Generation iPhone Sells for Over $63,000

Nostalgic items from our youth have started to become pricy collectibles to those rich enough to afford them. A first-generation iPhone is now on that list, as an unopened version was recently auctioned off for more than $63,000.

Louisiana-based LCG Auctions said that the iPhone from 2007 fetched a high bid of $63,356.40 before the auction closed on February 19, 2023.

Karen Green, the device’s original owner, said she received it as a gift in 2007 and decided to leave it in the box because she had just gotten a new phone and didn’t need to replace it yet. The New Jersey resident became interested in the value of the vintage phone after she heard about another unopened iPhone selling for $40,000.

Back in 2019, Green took the unopened iPhone on a “Treasure Hunt” segment for the television show Doctor & The Diva. She was told at the time that the phone would likely sell for $5,000. The estimate was clearly off as she sure got quite the upgrade with her $63,000 payout.

Green, who also owns a tattoo shop, will be putting her new fortune into her business.
