It’s not easy to keep a straight face while paying last respects to a woman in an M&M-shaped casket. A grandmother in Arizona stayed true to herself even after she stopped breathing by requesting a colourful casket to match her vibrant personality.
Mary Stocks Martin, a retired teacher from Snowflake, Arizona, died at the age of 86. Guests gathered around a bright blue casket during the graveside service. Martin taught students for 30 years and the chocolate formed a memorable part of her identity.
“She used to initial everything ‘MSM,’ but that ‘S,’ in cursive, of course, looks like M&M,” he said. “The students started bringing her M&Ms, memorabilia and it just turned into something that she reflected on as part of her success as a teacher.”
Martin’s grandson, Scott Roundtree, shared photos of the M&M-themed funeral in a video slideshow on TikTok. The video shows funeral attendees wearing M&M t-shirts and hats. A red hat was placed on Martin’s casket.
TikTok users complimented Martin on her one-of-a-kind casket choice and some people gasped at the thought that the blue M&M died. She created her M&M-shaped casket years before her death with her son’s assistance. The casket was created to represent Martin’s favorite M&M candies — the blue almond M&M named “Blue” by Mars, Inc.
Martin’s casket also had a close-eyed M&M shape with the hands resting on top of the mini candies that had the names of Martin’s children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Martin has four children, 19 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral attendees paid last respects to Martin by dropping M&Ms on her casket. “She told us before she passed, ‘I want pictures of the coffin to go out. I want people to see it,'” Martin’s son, William Martin, said.
Her soul will Rest In Peace now that she has a viral video slideshow online with over 1.4 million likes. People definitely saw it as per her last wish.
