Man Lists His License Plate for $2 Million

When you know you have something good to sell, a pretty price tag is going to come with it. A California man who has had a customized license plate reading “CASH” registered since 1970 is now selling the plate with an asking price of $2 million.

Claude Arthur Stuart Hamrick is now looking to sell the rights to his vanity plate that he’s had in his name for over 50 years. “Every time I traded cars, the dealers tried to buy it from me. Every car dealer in San Jose wanted that plate,” the 83-year-old said. “I told them I wouldn’t sell it for a million dollars.”

Hamrick has since backed up his statement, listing the iconic plate for $2 million. The retired San Jose patent lawyer made sure he registered the plate the first year California permitted so-called “vanity” plates.

License plate rights have always made for some interesting sales in the past. In specific states, like Delaware, low-numbered license plates are highly sought-after. One plate featuring the number 20 sold for $410,000 back 2018.
