Patch Crowned as the 2023 Beautiful Bulldog Champion

All hail the Queen of bulldogs! Patch, a two-year-old English bulldog, rested on the prestigious throne as the winner of Drake University’s Beautiful Bulldog Contest. Her acrobatic skills and charms were outstanding as she beat 28 other contestants from six states to land the title. Patch is a rescue dog and nine other dogs in the contest were also rescued.

Drake’s official mascot is the bulldog and the real dogs were part of the opening events preceding the Drake Relays track and field competition.

Patch was a crowd favorite — her entrance on the runaway brought on loud cheers from the impressed audience. Patch’s ability to navigate the hoops kept the audience singing her praises.

Jennifer Hinton and Joel Kornder from Johnston, Iowa, are the proud owners of the bulldog. There were months of preparation leading up to the hoop performance and the lengthy training paid off as she basked in the glory of the win.

“I heard about the contest when I moved to Des Moines this past summer and I knew I had to enter Patch,” Hinton said. “She is the epitome of the bulldog breed and we’re so proud of her all the time but especially today.”

No Queen is complete without an elegant crown. Once she secured the title, Patch had a speedy outfit change where she swapped the denim coat for a blue satin cape and crown.
