Portland Airport Introduces Llama Therapy to Ease Holiday Travel Stress

There’s nothing like petting a llama to ease the stress of traveling amid the holidays. An airport in Portland introduced a unique surprise to passengers stuck traveling during the holidays by having therapy llamas trot throughout the building.

Prince and Beni, two 400-pound llamas, served as therapy animals at Portland International Airport throughout the busiest travel time of the year. Any passengers looking to decompress could find solace in the gentle animals.

“It’s the most fun to see everyone’s reactions because you go from stress and concentrated trying to get to your gate on time to looking up and just seeing these 400-pound fluffs walking right by you,” Shannon Joy with Mountain Peaks Therapy Llamas & Alpacas said.

Who wouldn’t want to relax with some llamas? This isn’t even the first time the airport has had therapy animals on deck. In the past, it has also employed therapy dogs to ensure that passengers could experience a sense of calm during the holiday rush.
