Family incest is cringe-worthy and it’s a struggle to imagine procreating with a family member. You can count on social media platforms to expose family secrets and people love to listen to juicy family drama. A TikTok user spilled the beans when she confessed that she and her husband were related by blood. It gets weirder when the couple makes the informed choice to continue the relationship.
Marcella, a blogger who posts on TikTok, decided to shed light on her family tale to her 300,000 followers. The intriguing word “confession” is seen written across the screen. The caption of the video was: “Funny story…I accidentally married my cousin. We had no idea our Grandma and Grandpa were 1st cousins. Oop!”
TikTok users soon learned that Marcella and her husband found out that they were cousins while she was pregnant with their child. It’s a bit too late to turn the clock back when the pregnancy belly pops out.
“So I’ve never told anyone publicly that I accidentally married my cousin,” Marcella said. “I was sitting on the couch looking for the baby we’re about to have and I was on a family search site. I was like ‘Oh look, grandpa’s name, grandma’s name, great grandma’s name, great great grandma’s name.’
“My husband was next to me on his own family search and was like ‘oh that’s funny — we have the same grandma and grandpa’s names’.”
The family tree was shockingly similar. She said: “Then we start looking at it and we realize my grandpa is my grandma’s first cousin.”
Marcella and her husband rang up the grandparents to fact-check and it turns out that they are indeed related. Things got more awkward when they found out that they had grown up together and were living together as children. “We’re third cousins!” she said. They’re pretty much siblings at this point.
The video concluded with: “We have won a prize for being the closest related in a neighbourhood activity and when I go to my family reunion he gets to go to his too — at the same time.”
It’s bad but not the worst as one user said: “Third cousins are pretty far removed.”
Another added: “That’s far enough apart lol. Crazy coincidence though!”
The baby is the newest addition to that strange family tree. A person commented: “So in a way, your baby is its own fourth cousin.”
