If New Year’s celebrations set the tone for the upcoming year, a woman started the year on the wrong foot when she smacked a police officer in the face with a plastic New Year’s Eve top hat. Kristie Ethridge, an Ohio woman who was on holiday in Florida, attacked a uniformed cop during the New Year’s Eve party.
The assault took place when the 49-year-old was trying to take a defensive stance for her husband, William Ethridge. Police officers initially went to the eatery to attend to a call regarding a battery committed by William. As the cops investigated William, Kristie burst into the conversation and interrupted the investigation.
Officer Anthony Bragano attempted to keep her out of it by telling her to stop talking but that only fueled Kristie’s rage. She yelled, “Are you fucking kidding me!” Bragano recalled, and she “threw a plastic ‘New Year’s Eve’ top hat directly at me, striking me squarely in my face just above the eyes.”
The couple ended up behind lock-ups. Kristie was subject to a felony battery rap and misdemeanour charge for resisting police attempts to make the arrest. William was arrested after he tried to fight the cops with his heroic attempts.
Both of them were under the influence of alcohol and although they were impaired in their judgment, they managed to stick up for one another. Their marriage vows continue in prison.
