Woman’s Christmas Bonus Potato Taxed on Next Paycheque

Christmas bonuses can range from all types of different amounts but have you ever heard of a potato as a special gift? A hospital employee learned that her Christmas bonus this year was a potato and that it was also being taxed on her next paycheque.

Amanda J. Panda wrote on X about what her employer is doing for its staff this year. “My work is doing a potato bar as our Christmas bonus.” She mentioned throughout a series of posts on the platform that this might be her “Charlie Brown villain origin story.”

“I’m literally getting a hospital potato as a bonus,” she wrote. “They also said it has a $15 value, so it will be taxed on our next check.”

Although Amanda wanted to raise a fuss about the potato as a bonus, she explained that she still needed a job and didn’t want to get fired for complaining. She did ask readers if she should “show up with Tupperware and just get my $$$$ worth in sour cream.”

Apparently, this wasn’t even the worst thing her work had gifted employees. “This is an improvement from the 30-minute Wexbex with leadership as our gift last year,” she said. “It was a Webex because the year before they had to be in the same room with us, and they’re too good and not doing that again.”
