Young Boys Crash Parent’s Car En Route to Toy Store

A trip to the toy store turned into an unforgettable experience for the children. Two young boys, ages six and three, took their parents’ car for a joyride in Langkawi, which is an island located on the west coast of Malaysia.

Unfortunately, it wasn’t an easy checkout with the toys since the boys didn’t make it to the store and they were stopped by the police after losing control and driving into a lamppost.

The boys were driving a silver Toyota Vios and it caught the attention of other drivers due to the erratic driving style. Most people assumed the reckless driving was caused by an impaired driver but no one guessed young children were actually behind the wheel.

According to police reports, the boys took advantage of the opportunity to sneak out to the toy store when their parents were sleeping. While the parents were knocked out in the bedroom, the boys grabbed the car keys and headed out for the door. “They had traveled about 2.5 kilometers (1.5 miles) before the crash, which damaged the car’s bonnet,” Langkawi police chief Shariman Ashari said.

Shariman added: “The driver was a minor aged six, who was driving a passenger — his brother, aged three. The crash occurred when the car, traveling from Ulu Melaka towards Kampung Nyior Chabang, lost control and crashed into a lamppost near Kampung Titi Chanwang.”

The older boy left the wheel with a cut to his chin, while his younger brother didn’t face any injuries.

As for the legal punishment, the case is being “investigated under Section 43 of the Road Transport Act 1987 for reckless driving.” The parents will be coming up with their own punishment and locking up the car keys to avoid similar episodes in the future.
