Step aside New York, there’s a new rat king coming through. According to a pest control company’s annual list, Chicago was dubbed as the top dog of the “Rattiest Cities” in the United States.
Orkin released its 2023 Rattiest Cities List and said that it is based on the number of new rodent treatments performed by the company from September 1, 2022, to August 31, 2023. For the ninth consecutive year, Chicago took the top spot.
Other notable moves included Los Angeles rising to the second spot on this year’s list and New York falling to the third spot. The rest of the top 10 were Washington, D.C., San Francisco, Philadelphia, Baltimore, Denver, Detroit and the Cleveland-Akron metropolitan area in Ohio.
“Each fall, mice and other rodents invade an estimated 21 million homes in the United States,” the company said. “They typically enter homes between October and February looking for food, water and shelter from the cold.”
