Couple Sets Up Custom Revolver-Shaped Backyard Pool

Guns and swimming pools come from two different worlds. Guns usually keep people on the edge in a flight or fight mode with the protective instincts activated. Whereas a swimming pool gives off a more relaxing atmosphere where people can kick back in a carefree manner.

Louis Minardi’s home in Tampa, Florida, features a combination of both the gun elements and a swimming pool. Minardi has a custom-built pool that is shaped to resemble a six-shooter revolver. It’s not out of the ordinary since the state is known for its gun culture.

“Neighbors that have bought houses around here have all come by,” said Minardi. “They’re all, ‘Is this guy a whack job?'”

The idea for a gun-shaped pool was inspired almost 40 years ago by Minardi’s high school friend, Albert Jones III, a contractor who was getting tired of building traditional pools. He wanted to explore other alternatives and a revolver is bound to stun the crowd.

Minardi was initially hesitant to implement the strange idea but he eventually came around. Minardi grew up with guns and his home pays tribute to a part of his upbringing. He grew up hunting with friends and remembers receiving his first firearm, a double-barrel shotgun, when he was in middle school. Fortunately, no one was hurt since the teen was aware of gun safety.

“I was the shortest, littlest guy growing up and bought a damn 12-gauge,” Minardi said.

“The times were different then,” he said. “You’re 12, and your mother drops you off a box of shells and a shotgun. But they trust it. They knew we knew what we were doing.”

Now, Minardi will be swimming in a revolver-shaped pool during his leisure time.
