Crash Involving Logging Truck Shuts Down Highway

Commuting can be made even worse when an accident gets in the way of your daily drive. All lanes of a North Carolina highway were closed after a tractor-trailer crashed and spilled its load of logs.

The North Carolina Department of Transportation reported that all lanes of U.S. 321 were blocked on November 3, 2023, at around 9:40 a.m. The Caldwell County incident occurred after the truck crashed and spilled the logs it was carrying onto the road.

Traffic had to be stopped in both directions so cleaning crews could work to clear the logs and spilled diesel fuel that had leaked onto the highway. The highway was reopened at around 1 p.m. the same day.

The crash happened when the 18-wheeler’s brakes failed and the driver was unable to slow down the vehicle. Fortunately, the North Carolina Highway Patrol confirmed that no one was injured in the incident.
