Dollar General Worker Arrested for Loading $6,000 Onto Personal Card

When working for a business, it’s best to not try to steal from them in order to keep your job. An employee of Dollar General clearly didn’t get the memo when they were accused of stealing money from the business and loading it onto personal debit cards.

Police were called to a Dollar General in Cartersville, Georgia, on February 10, 2023, at around 3:50 p.m. The store’s loss prevention employee told police that a cashier, identified as Pili Smith, was stealing money from the store.

When confronted about the incident, the 26-year-old openly admitted to the thefts and said he learned how to load money onto his card after he performed the action for a customer. According to authorities, Smith then decided to load money onto his own cards so he could help his mother with bills.

Smith provided the store with a written statement before officers arrived at the location, where he said he would load money onto his debit cards multiple times a day. At the end of the statement, Smith admitted to loading approximately $6,450 onto his personal debit cards over the time period this happened.

The store’s loss prevention employee did confirm he wished to press charges against Smith for the crimes. Smith was arrested and taken to the Bartow County Jail where he is facing a charge of felony theft by taking.
