Fat Cat Admired as Poland’s Top Rated Tourist Attraction

It can be prestigious to be overweight since a curvy body can still rest comfortably at the top rank. Approximately 2,600 Google reviews have awarded Gacek, an overweight black-and-white street cat, with 4.9 out of 5.0 stars. The cat is the top-rated tourist attraction in the Polish city of Szczecin.

Castles and parks may hold people’s hearts in person with the architecture and landscape but it’s this cat that holds a strong online presence. Gacek rose to fame after a news site called wSzczecinie posted a video that went viral on social media. Since then, people haven’t stopped showering this cat with some love since then.

Gacek was first spotted ten years ago on Kaszubska Street in downtown Szczecin. He wasn’t always plump; the body weight is a result of the public taking a liking to him and being generous with the feedings. It was positive feedback loop for him; the more he got fed, the more people liked him due to the round shape.

It’s not all roses in the ranking system. There are a few thorns with some one-star reviews from people shaming the caregiver and worrying about the unhealthy weight.

It should be noted that Gacek doesn’t have an owner since he’s a street cat who lives in a roofed wooden box outside a shop. The shop owners step in to look after him and they display a sign that requests feedings to be sealed in a container and to avoid petting him when he’s sleeping. Naturally, Gacek needs his beauty sleep to steal more hearts.
