Golfers Save Woman’s Life at Topgolf

Emergencies can happen anywhere and where you go for a round of golf is no exception. Golfers, who also turned out to be healthcare workers, were able to save a woman’s life when she experienced a seizure at her workplace.

The woman, who works at Topgolf in Fort Myers, Florida, was lucky to have Manuel Morales, an EMT at Cape Coral Hospital, and Courtney Jones, an emergency room nurse, at the business when she had a medical emergency. “We had only been there about 20 minutes, and we decided to order some food and go to the bar, and then we heard someone had collapsed, so we ran over,” Jones said.

Those who saw the woman faint said that she had stopped breathing for over a minute, which launched Morales and Jones into action. “There was so much adrenaline that it was crazy,” said Morales. “She was already blue! Like her lips were blue… She wasn’t responding.”

The Lee Health workers knew exactly what to do and grabbed a defibrillator to shock her heart and performed CPR. One of the medics also used a styrofoam cup to blow oxygen into the woman’s mouth. The pair worked together until EMS arrived and the woman was rushed to the hospital.

“It was a good feeling to hear that we had saved her life when she had woken up,” Morales said. “It was really great, and it warmed our hearts. That we were there to help her.”
