Loose Monkey Seen Drinking Beer in Indianapolis

There’s nothing like a curious monkey to make news headlines. A monkey on the loose in Indianapolis was reportedly spotted sipping on an alcoholic beverage.

The monkey, named Momo, has been on the loose in Indianapolis since he escaped from his owner’s home in the Ironridge Court area on October 4, 2023. He was later spotted in the Gate Drive neighborhood, about a quarter mile from his home.

IMPD is assisting @INDYACS with a monkey on the loose near 500 Ironridge Ct (south of E Washington St and S Mitthoefer Rd).

There are reports of minor injuries from the monkey but we can’t confirm it is from bites.

Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department posted about the escaped animal on X, formally known as Twitter. They said that they were unable to confirm whether Momo had bitten anyone while on the loose.

On top of being on the loose, at least one neighbor reported to police that Momo was seen drinking a beer out of a garbage can. Looks like being away from home is also stressing him out.

While this case may be unusual, the Indianapolis code does allow for the ownership of “wild or dangerous” animals but requires the owner to register them with the animal care services.
