Lost Dog Found 600 Miles Away After Nearly Four Years

One pup certainly got its exercise after it went missing from its home and ended up 600 miles away. A dog that went missing from a family friend’s Colorado home in 2020 ended up appearing four years later near the Mexican border, around 600 miles away.

Benjamin Baxter was 13 years old when he brought home a 6-week-old puppy named Patches. In 2020, he had to move to Nebraska for a new job and his new rental home did not allow dogs, which forced him to leave Patches with a family friend in Calhan, Colorado.

While Baxter was busy searching for a new home that would accept Patches, she managed to escape the friend’s home after only a couple of months. Since Patches had a history of escaping, Baxter wasn’t too worried about it initially. It was only after days went by with no response to the “lost dog” posters that he gave up hope.

Fast forward to January 31, 2024, when Baxter’s wife, Elizabeth, received a phone call from his mother. She said that she had been receiving calls about Patches being found in Las Cruces, New Mexico, but she thought the calls might be a scam.

Baxter contacted the shelter and realized that they did indeed have his long-lost furry friend. Patches was brought from New Mexico back to the family friend’s house in Colorado, where Baxter will soon drive to reunite with Patches and bring her home for good.
