When the cash is running low, a man decided to go low to make ends meet. Guy Willis, a 34-year-old man, was identified by his legal team as a “buffoon” for his irresponsible behavior.
The story unfolds when Willis entered a convenience store in the Orford area to purchase some alcohol but he was short on funds.
When the shop worker requested him to pay, Willis pulled his shorts down to his ankles, revealed his penis and said: “Can I pay with this?” The answer wasn’t a cheerful nod. The worker was shocked by the indecent behavior and asked him to pull his pants up and pay for the alcohol.
Shortly after, Willis was arrested and charged with exposure of his genitals, with the intention of scaring someone off with the sight of his penis. He’s not a new convict, as the court confirmed that he has six previous convictions for 11 offences.
He pleaded not guilty to the offence after being charged and was convicted after a trial. Solicitor Gary Heaven said: “I struggle to find from my experience a more misjudged example of buffoonery than this.”
It’s hardly the statement you’d expect from the defendant’s legal team, as Heaven added: “He was always going to be identified and come to the attention of the police. One has to question what on earth was in his mind at the time.”
Heaven added that Willis was under the influence of alcohol and his judgment was impaired leading him to make a mistake. According to the solicitor’s defence statement, Willis stopped drinking and no other customers or children were present at the time he pulled his pants down. The hope is to lessen the sentencing by acknowledging that he spared youngsters a scarring sight.
Willis was sentenced to “a community order including 30 rehabilitation activity requirement days and a 90-day alcohol monitoring requirement. He must also sign the sex offender register for five years and pay court costs of £350.”
