Thief Robs Store at Gunpoint With Underwear Over His Head

A mask to cover one’s face during a robbery is an added expense. One man opted for a head accessory that people have in abundance in their closets: underwear.

Davonta Edward Mitchell, a 30-year-old man in Paducah, Kentucky, is facing several charges after robbing a grocery store at gunpoint while wearing underwear on his head. After startling people with a gun and underwear, Mitchell escaped the place in a stolen car from an auto parts store in Portsmouth, Ohio.

An Adams County deputy witnessed the vehicle driving past Route 52 and caught the suspect. Deputies were able to retrieve the stolen cash and a firearm from the vehicle. As an added bonus, they received a pair of underwear that the suspect used as a makeshift mask.

Based on the statement from the Scioto County Sheriff’s Office, Mitchell has been charged with “theft, aggravated robbery, kidnapping and theft of a motor vehicle.” He is being held on a $207,500 bond at the Scioto County Jail.
