Woman Calls 911 to Complain About Long Burger King Lineup

One of the risks of getting takeout for dinner is sometimes having to wait in long lines. Although many people expect this, one woman was so fed up with waiting that she decided to call 911.

Manitoba RCMP took to Twitter to remind the public that calling 911 is meant to be used for emergencies only. This comes after a Steinbach, Manitoba, Canada, woman called to complain about a long drive-thru line at the city’s new Burger King.

“We realize you aren’t you when you’re hangry but this is not a valid reason to dial 911,” the tweet read.

While the comment was light-hearted, RCMP media relations officer Tara Seel said that it’s rooted in a serious issue. “When you call 911 for a non-emergent matter, that can tie up an operator who could be dealing with an emergency,” Seel said.

The Manitoba RCMP has had its work cut out for them as another person also recently called them to ask about where they could find a Zamboni that weekend. People should only be calling 911 in the event of an emergency and unfortunately, a lineup at a fast-food restaurant or trying to find a Zamboni don’t qualify as such.

“At 911, we’re there for you. We want to help you and this is not at all to discourage anyone from calling,” Seel said. Just keep in mind the situation that you should be calling 911, and that is when there is an emergency situation where you need immediate assistance.”
