Fired Contractor Damages Marina for Revenge

Getting fired from a job can leave anyone feeling frustrated. A disgruntled excavator operator that was canned from his employer decided to get payback by destroying the Pride of Rosseau Marina in Muskoka, Ontario, Canada.

The accused has been charged with mischief and handed a $5,000 fine after a viral video posted by Don Tapscott, a resident from the area, shared a video he took on Twitter. The video shows the 59-year-old excavator operator using the machinery to severely damage the marina.

Officers arrived at the scene just after 9 p.m. on the day the damage occurred and discovered “significant damage” to the marina on Lake Rosseau in Muskoka Lakes Township. The suspect wasn’t in the area at the time but after Tapscott’s video went viral, the perpetrator was easily identified. He is now scheduled to appear in court and risks spending time behind bars.

“It was almost surreal what happened. For something like that to happen… it’s like fiction,” Geordie Newlands, owner of the SWS Muskoka marina said. He also added that the cost of the damage was “in the millions.”

It’s actually unknown as to what the reasoning was behind the damage but it’s suggested that it is the work of a disgruntled former employee.
