Man Commits Crime for Free Jail Food and Accommodation

A person’s financial situation can quickly feel crippling when the expenses are growing by the day and the salary can’t keep up.

Kenneth D. Hunt, a 39-year-old man from Louisiana, committed a crime hours after being released from jail. Although his actions sound absurd, they made sense in his head since no one is charging him to stay behind bars. It’s like an all-inclusive staycation where the cost is to commit a crime or two to earn the stay.

According to the Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office statement, his offence was that he threw a rock and broke the glass on the front door at the main entrance of the jail. Then, he removed the broken glass with his hands to secure a place.

This illegal mission was a success in Hunt’s books. He was arrested and re-booked into the Calcasieu Correctional Center.

Sheriff Joe Mancuso said: “This individual had not even been released from the Calcasieu Correctional Center for 24 hours before he decided to return and break the glass on the front doors. He stated to deputies he wanted a place to sleep and a meal; we quickly made those arrangements for him. I guess we can now say we literally have people beating down the door to stay with us.”

Freedom is an illusion; what might feel confining to one person may feel like freedom to another. Hunt was willing to get his hands dirty to spend a night with the cops. The best part was that he didn’t need to dig into his pockets for his wallet.
