Man With 12 Wives and 102 Children Plans to Stop Growing Family

Family fuels our sense of belonging and purpose in meaningful ways. A wife to pick you up in times of despair, and a few children that instil hope for the future generation can be a fulfilling plan.

A man from Butaleja built himself an army of family members with his record breaking family count. Mzee Musa Hasahya, a 67-year-old Ugandan farmer, is a proud family man, with 12 wives, 102 children, and 568 grandchildren. He took the saying, be fruitful and multiply, very seriously.

As the village chairperson, he’s able to flash his status and wealth to get more marriage proposals. Whenever he approached a family about marrying their daughter, they were happy to give their blessings. Despite his growing track record of wives, his prestige that came with the job was a huge advantage when it came to his wife hunting process.

Hasahya married his first wife in 1971, at age 16, and then the count only grew from there to 12 wives. His dad only had two children, so Hasahya made a deliberate decision to keep the bloodline going strong with over 100 children.

If you struggle to manage a household with one spouse, this man keeps it going with a third of Hasahya’s children still living with him and his wives in the family home. The others have moved out to build their own families.

His genitals may be effective at procreating, but his memory is not as strong. Although he is able to distinguish which of his children belongs to which wife, he doesn’t know all of the children by name.

A big family can lead to big bills, so it’s not all butterflies and unicorns. The increasing cost of living makes it harder for him to provide for his family and some of his wives left him. He’s currently with only six of the wives, but that should be plenty.

Due to the financial burden, Hasahya informed his remaining wives that they needed to use contraceptives to prevent unwanted pregnancies. He’s officially done with the sperms running wild.

Although he’s done with welcoming new babies into the world, he’s overflowing with love for his multiple wives. Monogamy is clearly not in his books. “How can a man be satisfied with one woman? That is a sign of being born a man but with female hormones,” Hasahya said.
