Owl Makes Its Home in Georgia Library

While owls are usually known for being wise creatures, one showed that they can have their stupider moment as well. A trespassing owl forced a Georgia college to close its library for a number of days before being successfully removed from the building.

Members of the Agnes Scott College’s McCain Library in Decatur, Georgia, confirmed that an owl flew down the chimney, which prompted officials to close the building to students. The owl settled into its new home and ended up perching in the rafters, way out of the reach of library staff.

The ground floor of the library was reopened a few days later but the owl remained sitting on its perch near the third floor. It wasn’t until Stewart Farron, a master falconer, was brought in to help the library with the situation that the owl was removed.

Using a hydraulic lift, Farron was able to capture the owl in a net and release it outside. “The owl seemed perfectly fine and was released on campus as students cheered,” Elizabeth Bagley, the school’s director of library services, said. “Hopefully he’s off hunting somewhere for a field mouse.”
