Remote Kissing Phone Accessory Created to Keep Passion Alive

Long-distance relationships are a challenge to nurture; passion starts to dwindle without face-to-face interaction. Video calls aren’t always satisfying for lovers craving physical touch.

Remote Kiss, a strange phone accessory made by Chinese manufacturers, addresses the struggles of physical intimacy for long-distance couples. The device allows users to savor a passionate kiss even if the lover is on the other side of the world.

Remote Kiss is made up of pressure sensors, actuators and soft silicone to allow people to smooch with one another even if they aren’t in the same room. The gadget is capable of detecting and replicating the temperature of a user’s lips to enhance the experience. The kissing sounds can be heard through the device to mimic the real act.

Remote Kiss is available on the Chinese online marketplace Taobao at a price of $41. It might be worth the purchase for long-distance couples. A steady internet connection could save couples a costly international trip to restore their passion.

Remote Kiss features a smartphone dock and it will need to be plugged into the phone’s charging port. It comes with an app that enables the connection between two different devices. Consent is required for both users.

Jiang Zhongli, a graduate of the Changzhou Vocational Institute of Mechatronic Technology, created it as a university project and applied for a patent in 2019. Although the patent is expired now, commercial versions are gaining popularity in the Chinese marketplace.

“In my university, I was in a long-distance relationship with my girlfriend so we only contacted each other by phone, that’s where the inspiration of this device originated,” Jiang Zhongli said.

There are advanced features such as the ‘kissing square’ function of the app where you can feel the sensation of a stranger’s lips. Users can take it a step further by uploading their kisses for others to experience.

Couple therapist John Gottman believes that a six-second kiss could potentially save a relationship. This device should be sufficient to save a long-distance relationship from dying a slow death.
