Scam Caller Gets Tricked as Payback

Scam callers can push our buttons with repeated calls that feel like a waste of time. A woman from the United States had plans to stop the scam callers by rattling them with witty dialogue that has gone viral on TikTok.

Emily aka @maverickmother on TikTok shared her rendition of the phone conversation popping off on the platform. Her video had the caption: “Got to do this.”

The original audio was posted by the user @msnewslady, who came up with a clever way to deter scam callers. In the video, the caller on the other end was a man giving instructions to retrieve her credit card information. He said: “Okay and the card has your name on it?”

Once she informed him that it was her name, he asked her to share her number.

She gives him a countdown of “3, 2, 1” and then throws him off with her broadcaster voice saying, “Good evening. We are live on television right now with an investigation into scam callers. We have the FBI on the line, they are tracking this phone number as we speak.”

If the FBI doesn’t scare the scam caller, nothing will. The woman asked him for his full name and he hung up abruptly out of fear of getting caught. His plan backfired and she got a good laugh out of his confusion.

One user commented on Emily’s version of the video: “I once wasted 45 mins of this guy’s time, talking like an old man.”

Sometimes you just don’t want the fun to end. Another user also wrote: “I now actually get annoyed when they hang up so quickly…”
