Thief Slips on Ice During Attempted Armed Robbery

Thieves are supposed to be smooth criminals when it comes to completing their jobs. It doesn’t pay to be a sloppy burglar, which one man discovered after he slipped on ice while attempting an armed robbery.

A bungling bandit was trying to rob a Gainesville employee on December 25, 2022, at around 1 a.m. Gainesville police were called after the armed robber pulled a gun on an employee walking out of a business and demanded cash.

The robber has since been identified as 30-year-old Luis Sajbocho-Ordonez. Police confirmed that Sajbocho-Ordonez and the employee were fighting when another employee exited the building, scaring the suspect, who fired his gun and ran away from the scene.

Luckily, the bullet didn’t hit anyone but as he was running away, Sajbocho-Ordonez slipped on a patch of ice and hit his head on the ground. Witnesses were able to wrestle two guns away from the criminal as he lay on the ground injured.

Police took Sajbocho-Ordonez into custody and emergency crews were able to treat his injuries before he was taken to jail. He was charged with armed robbery and aggravated assault.

“Like a scene from Home Alone,” Gainesville police wrote on Facebook. “Fortunately, no serious injuries occurred and the perp went to jail.”
