You’ll Never Believe What This Man Built Inside His Home

There’s really no place like home. A Florida-based British man shelled out over $11,000 of his own money to build a traditional pub in his house.

Retired U.S. Navy Captain John Jones moved to Florida in 1994 but was missing the delight of having a drink at the pub back home in England. The 63-year-old got the idea to create his own in-house pub that’s decorated with everything you’d expect: Chesterfield couches, a Union Jack on the ceiling, a lot of royal memorabilia and, of course, a lot of Scotch.

“I wanted to recreate a bit of Britain in Florida, you do miss home. Although I served in the U.S. Navy, I also love being British. I’m probably in the pub every day. At the end of a long day, we’ll sit in there and put some music on, have a malt or a pint,” Jones said.

To give the pub an authentic British flare, he and his wife have collected little knickknacks over the years whenever they see something that catches their eye.

His pub has become the talk of his neighborhood and Jones always invites anyone in looking for a drink. “But everybody who comes over loves the pub and wants to go back there.

“Friends and neighbours love it, it’s cozy and kind of dark. It makes you feel like you’re back in Britain, with that old pub feeling. The Americans have a soft spot for the British more than any other nation. That’s why I think Americans love to come and visit the pub,” he said.

British and American cultures can finally come together to share the one thing they both enjoy: a cold beer after a long day of work.
