Carjacking Attempt Foiled by Stick Shift

Driving a manual transmission vehicle can definitely come in handy every now and then. A carjacking attempt in a Safeway parking lot was foiled after the thief didn’t know how to operate the vehicle’s stick shift.

According to Montgomery County Police, at around 6:15 p.m. on February 13, 2023, an adult male left Safeway and placed his child and groceries in his vehicle. The criminal approached the victim with a knife and demanded the keys to the vehicle.

The victim handed over the keys and the suspect entered the vehicle, only to quickly leave on foot once he realized it was a manual transmission car.

Even though police searched the area, they were not able to find the suspect. The thief is being described as a Black male in his late teens, approximately 20 years old, standing between 5 feet, 6 inches and 5 feet, 8 inches tall and weighing 130 pounds. He was wearing a dark jacket, dark pants, and a black mask at the time of the attempted carjacking.

Crime Solvers of Montgomery County has offered up a reward of up to $10,000 for any information that leads to an arrest.
