Thieves Steal Railway Track in India

Gone are the days when thieves lurk in train compartments for valuables. Now, people have their eyes fixated on the train track to rob when the opportunity presents itself. A strange case of theft has surfaced in the Bihar district of Samastipur as just over 1.5 miles of railway track was stolen.

The irony is that those who were meant to protect the railway track committed the crime. Two workers from the Railway Protection Force (RPF) have been suspended over their alleged connection to the theft. It was a father-son duo, Anil Yadav and Rahul Kumar, who was arrested following suspicions in the case.

The railway line was built to transport goods and it was later shut down along with a nearby mill. After the closure, the infrastructure was supposed to be part of an auction as scrap. Kumar worked as a secretary at the sugar factory that processed the scrap.

During the investigations, the police learned that the rail line was sold without a competitive tender. Employees worked together to pull off the crime and they were accused of selling the tracks to other businesses for a profit without the bidding process.

This case is still ongoing an investigation.
