Alligators Enjoy Popeyes Too

Popeyes isn’t just for humans anymore. Alligators also enjoy the convenience of a good drive-thru and who doesn’t love some fried chicken?

An alligator turned up at a Popeyes location in Laurel, Mississippi, expecting to be served as it hung out near the drive-thru area. The three-foot-long gator took cover under a pile of pallets next to the restaurant’s dumpster to wait out the situation.

An officer and a game warden with the Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries and Parks (MDWFP) arrived at the scene to capture the animal. The officer was able to use a catch pole to secure it and put the gator in a dog box in the back of his truck.

The officer and a game warden set the animal free outside city limits. The gator was not harmed while being relocated but it did manage to miss out on some delicious chicken.

The city’s animal control supervisor said alligator sightings are becoming more common, especially during rainy weather conditions. The department usually gets one gator call each year but this marks the second one of 2022.
