An Unexpected Impact of The Queen’s Death

The death of The Queen caused a nearly two-week-long mourning period that saw many businesses shuttered to show their condolences. Some events have also been canceled, including a very important awareness week.

That’s right, Queen Elizabeth II’s death earlier this month forced the cancelation of Guinea Pig Awareness week. “In recognition of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II’s funeral, we are postponing Guinea Pig Awareness Week,” organizers said.

The week is meant to be dedicated to improving the health and welfare of guinea pigs. The event explores what it means to be a guinea pig owner, shares some top tips and uncovers interesting facts about the animals.

Thankfully, the awareness week was moved to take place during the last week of September. We’re currently in the midst of Guinea Pig Awareness Week, which was moved to take place from September 26-30, 2022.

Other suspensions or bizarre happenings during the national mourning period in the United Kingdom include street performers on the London Underground being suspended and supermarket chain Morrisons turning down the sound of its checkout system, music and announcements, out of respect for the Queen.
