If you’re a fan of Donkey Kong and the Mario Bros. universe, this museum might be the perfect place for you to spend an afternoon. A New York museum announced it is installing a 20-foot Donkey Kong arcade cabinet designed to be the largest in the world.
The Strong National Museum of Play in Rochester, New York, is home to the World Video Game Hall of Fame. When you’re known for going big or going home, it only makes sense to want to create a memorable experience for museumgoers.
The museum recently announced on Instagram that it is working to “create the world’s largest, playable Donkey Kong arcade game.” This machine is set to be 370 percent larger than the original arcade cabinet but will be fully functional and available for guests to play.
The cabinet will measure around 20 feet tall, which will defeat the 16-foot tall Tetris cabinet that currently holds the Guinness World Record for the largest arcade machine.
Luckily, fans of the game won’t have to wait long as the arcade machine is scheduled to make its debut on June 30, 2023.
