News Crew Robbed While Reporting on Chicago Robberies

It’s not a good look when a news crew reporting on crime gets robbed in the process. That’s exactly what happened to a television news crew in Chicago that was robbed while doing a story about an armed robbery.

Chicago is currently going through an armed robbery spree, with at least 30 people being robbed or carjacked between the afternoon of August 27 and the morning of August 28, 2023.

On August 28, a news reporter and photojournalist were preparing to do a live shot about the latest robbery spree when a holdup crew rolled up to them in the 1200 block of North Milwaukee, Chicago, shortly before 5 a.m. A Chicago police spokesperson confirmed that a 28-year-old man and a 42-year-old man working for Univision were victims in the incident.

Around 4:53 a.m., a black SUV and a gray sedan pulled up and three men got out wearing ski masks and displaying guns. The group took the victims’ personal belongings, as well as stole the station’s camera from inside their van.

While police have had some successes in making arrests for the increasing robberies, they have still continued.
