NYC Dating Craigslist Ad Offers $10,000 for a Wife

Wooing a woman to be a wife might be an outdated strategy when you can just pay your way into a lady’s heart.

A lucrative Craigslist advertisement is offering $10,000 for Cupid to shoot arrows on his behalf to lock down a wife. The job poster is a single male in his thirties who is offering different rates for each benchmark in the relationship: $200 for a date and $2,000 for a girlfriend as well.

“I’m seeking a soulmate,” the lonesome man with deep pockets wrote. “But first, I’m seeking a Cyrano de Bergerac.”

Cyrano de Bergerac was a French novelist who was ashamed of his large nose and got enlisted by Christian to write love letters on his behalf. Christian was a handsome man, but admits to not being a good writer and needs Cyrano to help him win the love of his life named Roxane. Things got complicated when Cyrano fell for Roxane as well, so those words in the letter were not impersonal and they were too heartfelt.

The job poster needed a ghostwriter to write on his behalf without any strings attached: “Me: a 30-something guy with a good Hinge profile but a low motor for messaging.”

“You: a witty banterer that loves the apps,” he added. “Us: the most unstoppable force on the NY dating scene.”

The Craigslist ad was shared on Twitter and questioned the underlying breach of ethics. “The whole point of Cyrano de Bergerac was that she fell in love with the guy saying all the nice words, not the handsome face,” wrote one person.

Another added: “Gonna really suck for the girl who thinks she’s meeting some witty son of a gun and turns out the guy is bland as white rice.”
