Oh Rats! Rodent Causes Power Outage

Rats can be mischievous animals and one took its curiosity a bit too far when it wiped out a town’s power for over an hour.

Residents of Tysons in Northern Virginia were taken off guard when their power went out on a Friday evening. The outage left 1,588 residents in the dark for an hour and five minutes. Several locals had no idea as to what caused the blackout.

Peggy Fox, a spokesperson for Dominion Energy in Northern Virginia, announced via Twitter that a rat was the pesky critter to blame for the outage. Fox wrote online that a rat “infiltrated a piece of equipment” and caused darkness to fall on the area.

Twitter users had a blast with the story. One person wrote: “Clearly cats are needed to combat this power outage…” Another commented: “The power of Splinter” in reference to the fictional character from the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.

Thankfully, residents were only left in the dark for just over an hour. It remains unclear if the rodent had been caught.
