Slithering Surprise Found in Bag of Popcorn

Heading to the grocery store every week can often be a mundane task. One woman’s grocery trip took an unexpected turn when she discovered a snake in her shopping cart.

Kimberly Slaughter was grabbing a few things inside of a Shoppers Value store in Lunenburg County, Virginia. As she was roaming through the aisles, she saw what she believed to be mouse feces inside of her shopping cart.

“I was like, I’m not getting that bag. So I put it on the bottom shelf because there was already mouse poop covering the bottom shelves,” Slaughter said.

When returning the bag to grab another, she noticed rodent traps on the bottom shelf. Grabbing another bag of popcorn, a small hole was found in the top right corner. That’s when she saw the slithering snake inside of the open bag.

As she brought the cart to the front of the store, the snake emerged from the bag before slithering around and returning to its safe home.

“It was the full length of the cart. It had prime real estate though,” Slaughter said.

Brian Stanley, the store manager for this Shoppers Value location, said the store is investigating the incident.

“We have no idea where it came from. We are investigating trying to find out where it came from, but we have no other indication that there could be any others,” Stanley said.
